Brenda-Li was introduced to the Pilates method, or the “art of contrology,” as a way of rehabilitation and injury prevention after sustaining various injuries from dancing with American Ballet Theater in New York. After her retirement from dancing professionally, she studied the classical method of Joseph Pilates under the tutelage of his leading protege, Master teacher Romana Kryzanowska, and obtained her level 5 certification in 2001. Brenda-Li began teaching at Winsor Pilates and has performed in over 2 dozen videos in the Winsor Pilates series. For years she was also the blog fitness expert for GAIAM and Mari Winsor Slimming Pilates, contributing articles and video tutorials for their websites. Currently, Brenda-Li’s a brand ambassador for SOLOW Sport apparel and contributes to the company’s blog. She’s featured in numerous magazines including Shape, Fit, Health, Glamour, and Dance Magazine.
Brenda-Li also has a passion for laughing; she loves doing stand-up comedy and can be seen performing at LA comedy clubs. She’s also experienced in the healing and creative arts. Once a dancer, always a dancer, so she still choreographs, performs, and enjoys exploring different types of movement: yoga, aerial tissu, hoop dance, and latin ballroom dance. Pilates continues to be her foundation for all movement.
Brenda-Li’s clients include celebrities, professional athletes, dancers, and anyone who is open and willing to learn about the “art of contrology”. Isaac Salazar was trained at the California Healing Arts College in 2003 and has been working as a full time massage therapist since then. He has worked with several Los Angeles area chiropractors who utilized his skills with soft tissue bodywork to enhance their clients chiropractic therapy. In his private practice he combines Swedish and deep tissue techniques to create a massage to fit each individual clients needs. Isaac is excited to join the team at Cotrone Pilates, because in addition to being a CMT he is also a certified Pilates trainer.
Leslie grew up on the Gulf Coast and danced intensely through her teen years attending numerous professionally recognized ballet schools. She moved forward from there on a scholarship attending the University of Oklahoma and holds a B.F.A. in Dance with special emphasis in ballet performance. She has always been interested in the physicality of movement and has since become Stott Pilates mat certified, Peak Pilates PPS1 certified, and completed her comprehensive Pilates certification with Frank Zito. Leslie has also been an NASM certified personal trainer for over 10 years. She believes that physical fitness is unquestionably related to mental health and your overall wellness. With a myriad of education for all ages and abilities her goal is to continually inspire her clients to enjoy movement.
Louise Garvey was All England Latin American Dance Champion – partnered by Ian Waite, United Kingdom 10 Dance Champions & World 10 Dance Grand Finalist – partnered by Adam Reeve. Louise’s other titles read as an international road map to ballroom dance: Australian Latin American Dance Champions, Australian Ballroom Dance Champions, Asia Pacific Latin American Dance Champions, Asia Pacific Ballroom Dance Champions.
Louise is a super talented instructor and loves teaching dance. She spent several years as a regular instructor at the Kensington Dance Studio, London. Louise was also a key teacher for Salsatecca, London’s no.1 salsa dance school for many years run by Elder Sanchez. Marea spent her young life studying classical ballet. She learned discipline and always relished the fun. Due to injuries she was forced to quit her professional ballet pursuits and went on to college, graduating with a BA in English Literature/Writing. Never losing her love of movement, she practiced yoga and continued ballet, for fun. Marea began the study of Classical Pilates by Romana Kryzanowska and has been teaching Classical Pilates since 1999.
What Marea finds most wonderful about Pilates is the internal strength and mental confidence it gives to those who practice it. She uses humor and her years of experience to help each student reach beyond their limits. Marea enjoys working with people of all ages and interests to help them gain deeper insights into their bodies, healing their injuries and most profoundly how Pilates can change your life by integrating its principles into everyday awareness.
Mila is a certified Pilates Instructor. She specializes in teaching Classic Pilates but also has experience in teaching Peak and Balance Body Pilates. Mila is an athlete at heart! She is passionate about healing her clients and will Inspire you to push harder. She is a marathoner, cyclist (currently training for the Aids/Life Cycle- San Francisco to LA in 2014) and swimmer. Roderick grew up in a dance studio with his sister and found Pilates in 2000 when he went and worked out with his mother at a nearby Pilates studio. After the first session his curiosity took over and he spent the summer taking as many Pilates sessions as he could. Roderick studied acting at BU where he learned movement fundamentals along with clowning ballroom dancing and fight choreography. Never forgetting how exciting the Pilates work was he always found his way back to it. Roderick began working with Frank Zito and after a couple of years teaching Pilates, he decided to get his Pilates certification. Since completing Frank’s training program Roderick continues to train with other Pilates instructors in Southern California to delve deeper into his craft.
Sandi Shapiro began her career studying ballet and modern dance at the prestigious High School of Performing Arts in New York. Upon graduation, she was accepted by the New York City Center Ballet Company where she studied with George Balanchine.
Later, Sandi danced in several Broadway Shows and as a regular dancer on the long-running Perry Como and Red Skelton television shows. She was featured on the Dinah Shore TV Show where she danced a duet with George Chakiris. Sandi performed with a dance act for four years called the Bob Devoye Trio. They toured extensively in night clubs throughout the United States and South America and appeared on many television shows including the Ed Sullivan Show. They were the opening act for several star performers including Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Frank Sinatra. Sandi danced in Elvis Presley’s movie “Girls, Girls, Girls” as well as in the movies “The Music Man” and “Bye Bye Birdie”. She was a featured dancer and choreographic assistant in the movie, “Gidget Goes Hawaiian”.
While living in London, Sandi trained for several years as an exercise instructor with Lotie Berk. Upon returning to the U.S., she created her own exercise program called “Total Body Technique”. Sandi Shapiro’s Total Body Technique focuses on building strength, tone and flexibility. Her classes are extremely inspirational and are ideal for students of all ages, body types, genders and fitness levels.
Sandi’s years of experience and knowledge of the human body make this one of the most sought after classes in Los Angeles.
